new t 20 caption pakistan

THE appointment of seasoned all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the new T20 skipper has been widely hailed by cricketing circles across the country.
Though Afridi’s chequered form of late with both bat and ball have drawn calls for his demotion in the batting order, experts and critics agree that he is an aggressive leader with the ability to inculcate the much-needed fighting spirit in the team.
Afridi, who astutely led Pakistan to the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup, has surprisingly been given a longer reign as captain this time round as the PCB wants his appointment to continue until the 2016 WorldT20.

A big show world cup trophy in pakistan

Cricket-starved Pakistan on Tuesday welcomed the trophy of the next year's World Cup, with skipper Misbah-ul-Haq vowing to win it for the sake of isolated nation and its terror-hit people. The International Cricket Council (ICC) set the most coveted trophy in the game for a world tour to spark interest for the mega event to be staged in Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to 29 March 2015.

A look back on pakistan world cup captions

Asif iqbal had the homour to pakistan first two global encounters consectivly 1975 and 1979.
Imran Khan replaced Iqbal to lead the team at the 1983 event, which was won by India. Imran had two more shots at glory, first in 1987, then in 1992, where he turned a bunch of talented young players into world beaters.
Before Imran left, he had mentored Wasim Akram to be his successor. Akram later moved on to become one of best bowler in the world and was known as "Sultan of Swing". Wasim led Pakistan in WC '96, which was hosted by Pakistan, and the '99 WC, hosted by England. Pakistan failed to defend its title in '96 and suffered a miserable loss to Australia in the final of '99 WC also under Akram's captaincy.
Cricketing experts often cite Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis as the best bowling pair in the history of the game. But just like Akram, Younis too was unable to lead Pakistan to glory when handed the reins before the 2003 World Cup. For the first in the history of the event, Pakistan failed to progress past the first round.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in ODIs, was arguably its best batsman after the retirement of legendary Javed Miandad. He took charge of a dispersed side which suffered great humiliation at the '03 WC and put a sense of belief into a relatively new team. At the eve of the 2007 WC, Pakistan were left without pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif and later went onto suffer an embarrassment of being knocked out of the event by Ireland.
Thrown out of the competition in the initial stages for two consecutive times, Pakistan had a point to prove. The WC 2011, jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, saw a new, energised Pakistan team with allrounder Shahid Afridi as its leader. Although Afridi had a great tournament personally, Pakistan lost to arch rival India in the semi-finals, a defeat most fans blamed on Misbah-ul-Haq, the team's next captain
The 2015 WC is just months away now and with Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka ending in disaster, it is unclear whether Misbah-ul-Haq will be retained as the skipper for the big event. Most former players have backed Afridi as the top choice to takeover from Misbah.

Vet performs life-saving surgery on goldfish

A cherished goldfish in Australia was saved from the final flush when his owners decided to fork up $200 so a veterinarian could perform surgery to remove his deadly tumor.
The owners of George the goldfish knew something was wrong with their longtime pet when they noticed he was having a tough time breathing and swimming in his tank, the Daily Mail reports.
When they spotted the growth of a lump on his head and also saw that the other fish had been bullying poor George, they rushed him to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne  to see what was wrong.
Dr. Tristan Rich, head of exotics and wildlife medicine at the hospital, examined the ill-gilled swimmer and came to the conclusion that his sickness was due to a life-threatening tumor. He would need to undergo an intricate surgery to have the tumor removed that would cost a whopping $200 to perform.
But no price was too steep for George’s owners, who have had the beloved goldfish for 10 years, according to the Daily Mail.
“For the owners, it’s not about having a fish, it’s about having this fish,” Rich said. “If you have a pet, regardless of what it is, then you have a responsibility to look after it as best you can.”
The extensive procedure all went down with the help of three buckets filled with water – one with a mild anesthetic, one with a strong anesthetic and the last with oxygen.
Dr. Rich then used a tiny tube to trickle the water over George’s gills “to keep him asleep and alive,” he told the Mail.
After carefully slicing away at the tumor, which had grown all the way down into George’s skull, the skilled vet managed to successfully remove what had been causing so many problems.
Once the pioneering surgery was complete, Rich had to think quick on his feet so he could properly close up his incisions.
“Very little of our methods are fish-specific,” he said. “We tried to seal him closed with sutures but they didn’t take, so we had to use tissue glue to seal the cut, which is used in surgery on humans.”
George safely made it out of the procedure and is currently on the road to recovery, according to the Daily Mail...
